Solution

Validate financial identifiers before they become workflow problems.

VAT numbers and IBANs answer different questions. A useful validation step checks the right identifier at the right boundary, returns structured results and leaves business decisions to your system.

EU VAT Validator

Checks individual or bulk EU VAT numbers against the official VIES service. Suitable before invoicing, tax treatment or supplier onboarding decisions that require a current VIES response.

IBAN Validator

Checks ISO 13616 structure and checksum information locally. It can reject malformed identifiers early; it does not claim that an account exists or can receive a payment.

A practical validation sequence

  1. Identify the decision the workflow needs to make.
  2. Run the narrow validator before data enters downstream systems.
  3. Store the structured response and timestamp where auditability matters.
  4. Treat a valid format or registry response as evidence for that check—not as a blanket guarantee.
